Hypnosis is simply a change in your focus of attention from your thinking (or conscious) mind to your feeling (or subconscious) mind. It is a dream-like state characterized by increased focus and concentration, heightened suggestibility, and extreme relaxation. In this state, new concepts and ideas can easily be introduced into the subconscious mind, which acts as the control center of your brain, without resistance from the conscious mind.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does the Hypnotherapist have control of my mind when I am in hypnosis? Can they make me do or say something that I don't want to?
Absolutely not!! You remain in complete control at all times during a hypnosis session. You can freely chose to disregard any suggestions the hypnotherapist makes and you can end the session at any time. The hypnotherapist has no control or power over you and cannot make you say or do anything that you do not want to.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist simply guides you into the hypnotic state, empowering you to achieve your own health and wellness goals.

Are you asleep or unconscious while in hypnosis?
No. You are not asleep or unconscious at all; you are highly relaxed but many people remain alert the whole time. Your sub-conscious mind is actually hyper-attentive while in the hypnotic state. Most people generally remember everything that occurs in their hypnosis session.

Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes. The vast majority of the population can be hypnotized. Anyone who wants to be hypnotized can enter into the hypnotic state – it is a totally natural state. In fact, most people enter in and out of the hypnotic state many times a day without even realizing it. Have you ever caught yourself lost in a daydream or totally engrossed in a book or movie? Or have you ever driven your car somewhere and arrived at your destination safely, but realized that you don't remember some of your drive because you had "zoned out"? These are all examples of a light hypnotic state, a state in which you are fully conscious and intently focused on a subject, but you tune out most of the other stimuli around you.

Can hypnosis be used for children and teens?
Yes, hypnosis is safe and effective for children and teens as well. In fact, children are often found to be even more receptive to hypnosis than adults. Hypnosis can can help children and teens to:
    •    Cope with stress and anxiety
    •    Manage ADD and ADHD
    •    Eliminate fears and phobias
    •    Improve sports abilities
    •    Overcome test anxiety
    •    Overcome shyness
    •    Improve grades and test scores including the SAT's
    •    Control pain, nausea, and other chronic conditions
    •    Stop/cure bad habits such as: bed wetting, thumb sucking, nail biting, trichotillomania, etc.
    •    Achieve their full potential

Are some people more hyponotizable than others?
Yes. Hypnosis is a skill like anything else, and some people, especially those who regularly practice meditation or other relaxation techniques are often able to enter hypnosis more quickly and deeply, which can lead to better results. However, most people do achieve a light state of hypnosis on their first visit. While only a light hypnotic state is necessary for most of the work that we do, everyone does get better with practice, so you will find that you are able to enter the hypnotic state more easily and deeply with each hypnosis session, especially if you begin to practice self-hypnosis on your own.

What does hypnosis feel like?
Most people describe hypnosis as extremely pleasant, deeply relaxing, and sometimes euphoric. The most common feelings reported by our hypnosis clients include: deep relaxation, a slight tingly or numb feeling, a feeling of heaviness, and a sensation of floating.

Can I get "stuck" in hypnosis?
No. You will come out of hypnosis when the session is over – even with self-hypnosis. It happens automatically or on command. When you decide you want to come out of hypnosis, you are out of hypnosis.

How long will it take for me to achieve my desired results?
When working with a professional hypnotherapist, the number of sessions you will need depends upon your motivation to achieve the desired change and the type of change you are seeking. We typically recommend that you plan on 5 or 6 sessions. However, you should experience some improvement after just one session, and in some cases, only one session is necessary.

I don't live nearby either of your locations, can we do hypnosis over Skype, FaceTime, or the phone?
Yes. While I and the majority of my clients prefer in-person sessions, sometimes they just aren't possible. I have conducted many long-distance sessions over Skype, FaceTime, and the phone that have been just as effective as in-person sessions.
